Dear (now former) guildie,

You were a shadow priest in Cataclysm, and you went healy when we needed a third healer. Then Mists came along, some of our raiders left for RL reasons, we recruited new people, and just about everyone switched specs or toons. You became a monk DPS, our bear tank became a healing monk, our other shadow priest became a bear tank, our hunter became a holy pally, I went from being feral to being a hunter, etc etc etc. You get the idea.

We've known for quite a while know that the aforementioned hunter-turned-holy-pally is heading back to Afghanistan for a few months. Tuesday was his last raid till he comes back. Our recently recruited warlock, who pulls awesome DPS, volunteered to switch to his priest to heal and you volunteered to become a priest again to act as a healer when we need a third healer, and a DPS when we don't. I guess I could understand why you didn't want to heal with your monk; from what I understand, 5.1 gave monk healers the nerf bat, and it was enough to cause the previously mentioned bear-turned-healing-monk to go back to his druid and become a tree.

So, on Tuesday, our last raid night with the holy pally, warlock-turned-priest brought his priest to Mogu'shan Vaults with the clear disclaimer that he'd power leveled it, and though he had some 463 items, a good bit of his gear is still leftover from heroic Dragon Soul. You, on the other hand, have two pieces of tier and quite a few other Valor, LFR, and Mogu'shan Vaults pieces you've picked up in the last few weeks since our mage has everything he wants out of there except the Elegon trinket. Basically, you have two miles of gear on him.

My problem is not that his DPS was right there with yours. We still notched our first Will of the Emperor kill and had one wipe the whole night on a botched Spirit Kings pull. My problem is the way you reacted. You started pestering the GM in tells saying you were offended (!) that he had allowed this guy to bring in his priest and that he was "showing [you] up" on Recount. You even demanded that the GM make him switch back to his warlock IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RAID, and then started complaining that we didn't appreciate you being willing to be our third healer, etc etc etc. Not once did you even contemplate the possibility of seeing what's changed about shadow priests since Cataclysm after raid and adjusting your rotation, glyphs, gear, or whatever.

News flash: we're a casual guild. As long as stuff dies before enrage timers, few fucks are given about DPS. If you're as concerned with Recount as you seem to be, you surely know that the other hunter in our raid (who used to be a chicken) still has yet to reach DPS that's on par with his gear. And do you see him pestering that I be forced to go back to being a feral? Nooooo. In fact, quite the opposite: he regularly picks my brain about what he should be doing to pick up his numbers (which is a whole different rant). And, to his credit, his DPS has steadily gone up the past few weeks.

Now, please explain to me several things.

1) How does making the other priest play his warlock solve our healer shortage?
2) How does making the other priest play his warlock improve YOUR DPS?
3) Why do you think that any of the officers give a shit that he was supposedly showing you up on the DPS meters when he's going to be a full time healer anyway?
4) Why the hell did you gquit yesterday afternoon over this whole thing?

I have my own theory that since your husband mysteriously gquit a while back (the GM is the only one who knows why, and he won't tell the other officers, which leads me to believe it's something personal), you've been trying to convince yourself to go with him and this gave you a convenient reason to do so.

So, gnomes, what's your take? If you were in the situation my (now former) guildie found herself in on Tuesday night, how would you react? I certainly would have tried to figure out what I was or was not doing properly and try to improve my numbers, but that's just me.

Love,
the hunter (formerly the feral)

I would guess you're spot on about her needing a reason to quit. People are very good at manufacturing versions of events to give themselves permission to do something they want to do but can't realistically justify.

If they caused trouble, I'd be saying farewell and good luck to them. Sounds like your guild wasn't the right fit for whatever reason. Now perhaps you guys can enjoy your raids.

This so much. They seem a bit...off to me. I'd happily replace them and go back to having nice raids. :)

Thirded (fourth-ed?).

Quite honestly, when one half of a couple quits unexpectedly, I start watching the other with a wary eye, because 9 times out of 10, there is impending drama and flounce incoming. Not always, of course, but usually there is something festering. And if it's all on the hush hush, there's usually a problem with the couple themselves, otherwise SOMEONE would speak up and try and problem-solve.

Either way, it sounds like you guys are better off without someone that isn't interested in researching their class and bringing their best to the table.

IMO, it's even more important for casuals to put forth the effort than it is for hardcore raiders. (I'm not saying spend hours and hours doing dailies, etc... but that when you have a casual group, it's harder for the team to make up for a weaker member)

BUT- Grats on your kill! :D
